An Air Ring Gauge and a Setting Plug are precision measurement tools used primarily in high-accuracy dimensional inspection, especially for checking external diameters like shafts. 1. Air Ring Gauge It is a non-contact, air-based measuring tool used to check the external dimensions (OD) of cylindrical parts. The gauge has small air jets that emit air when connected to an air supply and a differential pressure system. As a part (e.g., a shaft) is inserted into the ring, the air back-pressure changes depending on the size of the part. The gap between the part and the ring’s inner diameter determines the airflow, which is measured and translated into dimensional data. Highly used in automotive, aerospace, and precision manufacturing where fast, repeatable, and non-contact measurement is critical. 2. Setting Plug A Setting Plug is a master or reference piece used to calibrate the air ring gauge. It is a high-precision cylindrical plug with a known and certified diameter. You insert the setting plug into the air ring to set zero or establish reference points (e.g., Go/No-Go limits) on the display. Usually made from hardened steel or carbide to resist wear and maintain dimensional integrity. How They Work Together First, you insert the Setting Plug into the Air Ring Gauge to calibrate or zero the system. Then, production parts are measured using the now-calibrated Air Ring Gauge for quick, accurate, and repeatable measurements. We manufacture Air ring Gauge and Setting Plug •USES •Useful for external diameters measurement. •Two jetted air ring gauge for measuring size, taper and ovality. •Three jetted air ring gauge for measuring average size and lobing. >>RANGE •10mm to 100 mm
